Health care on the countryside is insufficient and of mediocre
quality. For the 16,000 people in the commune there is only one health
station with 5 nurses and no doctors. The station is a small brick building
with 6 patient rooms with simple beds. Recently the center was extended
with a birth station, spended by USAID. In 2014 it got access to the power
network that slowly is being extended in the rural villages. Equipment for
storing of medicines is still operated on gas. There is a limited
availability of medicins and medical tools. Transport to the health station
and to the nearby hospitals (15 and 30 km away) has to be arranged by the
people themselves. In many cases people cannot afford it.
Tuberculosis is wide spread and diarrhoea is a
major problem still being one of the most frequent causes of death in
small children.
